Lakshman Rekha
Written April 24, 2008
A long time ago
in a myth
Ancient Indian -
Rama & Sita were wedded
and soon after exiled
alongwith Rama's brother
Lakshmana
In the forest,
to protect Sita from
demons, evil spirits and
general mischief-makers -
Lakshmana drew a circle
around their hut.
Any who with bad intent
transgressed that
magical boundary, that
Lakshman rekha -
would become instant
fuel for Agni, the
God of Fire.
So the story goes......
Is this a modern myth then
or a truth born out of
our primordial desire?
That we have drawn
Lakshman rekhas around
each other?
We laugh, we talk
Kiss, caress &
Fuck
Then comes some
anger, some trivial
hurt which starts
suddenly, Spirals
snake-like.......
speedily, sullenly, silently,
and striking just as
venemously
speaks the words
I have come to dread
and strangely accept
"let's forget this, let's
end this you-and-i"
But it does not
end, this you-and-i
We refuse to leave
those rekhas drawn
skilfully, seductively
and sanctioned by the
Universe
It seems though that
inside or outside the boundary -
We burn
